• You want to know how to interpret the answer you got from a Human Resources professional.          

Good news! However you got here, you're in the right place (including you, wrong link clicker!).  Having spent the last decade working in HR, I either know the answers to all your questions, or (and perhaps more importantly) I know where and how to get the answers to any questions I don't know.

If you are an employee, there are 3 things that you need to remember when dealing with HR:

• They are privy to nearly all decisions that are made (though they do not always give their stamp of approval (aka the magic "If you do this, you probably won't get sued" stamp)
• They are usually people that are in the role because they both like and want to help employees
• At the end of the day, they are all employees too!

If you are a manager, there are 3 things that you need to remember when dealing with HR:

• They exist to help you run your business better, LET THEM!
• If you really want to do something, they can usually help you find a good (read: legal) way to do it.
• You are in the role to run your operation because YOU are the one that knows how, which means that you are NOT focused on what is going on legally, politically, or lunarly that is affecting your ability to maintain that operation as it relates to your workforce.  The HR people promise not to run your business, make sure you r own promise not to run theirs!
